Delete your account

Two ways to do it. Both end in the same place.

From inside the app

  1. Open Nostia and go to Settings.
  2. Scroll to care and choose delete from server (“erase data on server and device”).
  3. Confirm with delete forever.

By email

If you no longer have the app installed, write to privacy@nostia.app. Include your backup key, or write from the Google account you signed in with, so we can tell which account to remove — we hold no name or address to match you by.

What we actually hold

Less than you might expect. Nostia identifies you by an opaque identifier and nothing else. We do not store your email address, and if you signed in with Google, the identifier cannot be turned back into your Google account. Your name stays on your phone and never reaches us. If you set a profile picture, that picture is stored against your identifier — it is the only image we hold.

The text of your entries is not on our servers. It lives encrypted on your device under a key only you hold; what reaches us is the shape of your use — that an entry happened, when, and the tags you chose — never the words. The one exception is an AI reflection you ask for: that entry is sent for processing at that moment, and is not kept afterwards.

What deletion does

It removes the identifier and everything attached to it — your profile picture and settings included — and wipes the encrypted journal and its key from the device.

Deleting your account destroys the encryption key. Your entries cannot be recovered afterwards — not by you, and not by us. This is not a policy we could make an exception to; without the key the data is unreadable to everyone. If you want to keep your entries, export them before you delete: Settings → data → Save a copy of your journal writes them to your phone or your cloud drive. If you also want the record held under your identifier on our side, ask at privacy@nostia.app and we will send it to you as a JSON file.

How long it takes

Immediately. Deleting your account wipes your profile and every stored snapshot from our database in a single operation — there is no queue and no waiting period. On-device data goes at the same moment.

Backups taken before the deletion are rotated out within 14 days — we keep a rolling two weeks of daily snapshots and nothing older. After that window, no backup of ours contains your record.
